The plan, such as it was: fly into Krabi, figure it out from there. No bookings past the first night, no fixed route between islands, just a rough sense that Railay, then somewhere quieter, then back to the mainland made sense.
It worked because southern Thailand is genuinely built for this kind of travel — longtail boats run constantly, guesthouses rarely sell out completely, and the worst-case outcome of showing up somewhere unplanned is an extra night you didn't need.
The loose route that worked
Krabi Town for one night to reset after the flight, then three nights in Railay for the climbing and the cliffs, then a longtail out to a smaller, quieter island for four days of doing very little. The lack of a plan meant staying an extra two nights somewhere that turned out to be worth it, and skipping a stop that didn't sound right once we got there.
